THREE VILLAGES PUBLIC MEETING: The Lakeshore Corridor as a Complete Street

THREE VILLAGES PUBLIC MEETING: The Lakeshore Corridor as a Complete Street

Monday, May 7 @ 7-9 p.m.

PORT CREDIT LEGION HALL, 35 Front Street North (map)

Citizens in Mississauga South are up against it!  A long line of developers are saying to residents of Clarkson, Port Credit and Lakeview that they will ”go to the Board” (and have!) to impose their inappropriate plans on the community.  We believe the Lakeshore Corridor, which includes 22km of Lake Ontario waterfront, is of provincial significance and can be a model for how to sustain and evolve historic communities without damaging their essential character.  As citizens we are doing our part – but we need OMB reforms to ensure our provincially approved City and Regional Official Plans can continue to guide development according to the democratic vision for Mississauga South’s villages.

MPP Charles Sousa will speak about Enhancing our Villages and the need for OMB Reforms (including initiatives the government is taking) so that municipalities with approved Official Plans (like Mississauga) can have democratic control over their Planning decisions.  Councillor Jim Tovey will inform us about pending applications along the Corridor.  And Gary Kent, the City’s Director of Corporate Strategy and Innovation, will speak to how we can model a sustainable waterfront community all along The ‘Shore.

Then the RA reps will present: We are positively engaged in the public planning process and are evaluating an increasing number of individual development applications (largely along the Lakeshore Corridor) – we have now structured our evaluation process to streamline volunteer time and better (and more quickly) communicate our concerns to all parties — and be able to highlight success stories too!
