Canadian Forces Veterans Ride Free on August 22 – Warriors’ Day Parade

Canadian Forces veterans and a friend may ride for free with MiWay on Saturday, August 22 to attend the 94th Warriors’ Day Parade.

“Each year we look forward to the Warriors’ Day Parade to pay tribute to Canadian Forces veterans for the sacrifices they have made for their country,” said Geoff Marinoff, director, Transit.

To receive a free ride on MiWay, veterans must identify themselves to a transit operator by wearing their uniform or displaying a medal or any other item that distinguishes them as a veteran.

The Warriors’ Day Parade is a tradition that originated in 1921. It occurs annually at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto. This year’s event marks the 70th anniversary of victory in the Second World War. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m.

Plan your MiWay trip by visiting or by calling 905-615-INFO (4636) for customized route and schedule information.

Take Charge and Recycle Your Batteries

MISSISSAUGA, June 18, 2015

The City of Mississauga’s battery recycling program now offers residents a battery drop off location at all Mississauga Libraries and Community Centres.

“Our program provides residents with convenient and environmentally responsible options to help them manage and reduce their waste,” said Brenda Osborne Director of Environment. “It’s about keeping hazardous waste such as used or unwanted batteries out of our landfills.”

Since its expansion in October of 2014, the program has collected over one tonne of batteries – that’s equivalent to a small compact car. By the end of 2015, the program is expected to collect over two metric tonnes of batteries.

Residents can recycle single use (non-rechargeable) batteries (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, C cell, D cell, 4.5-volt, 9-volt.) at any of the bins located by the customer service areas in each Library and Community Centre. To ensure safety, residents are asked to cover the battery terminals with electrical tape before dropping the batteries into bins.
